Pool Noodle Hockey

Ball Hockey always leaves the less than athletic people out of the game. In this version, take a pool noodle and cut about 1 inch of the end, cover it in ducttape. This is the puck. Because its so light, even the worst goalie can stop the shot. Also, its difficult to get a good 'slap shot' because the puck won't fly straight.

As a second suggestion, try useing pool noodles cut in half as the hockey sticks. I've always wanted to try this, but have never had the time as yet.

Pool Noodle Shuffle Your Buns

The chairs are arranged in a circle. (We find a carpeted room sometimes works better.) One person is It and stands in the center of the circle. Everyone else sits down on a chair. One chair will be empty.

The object of the game is for the sitting players to prevent IT from whacking them while occupying the empty chair before they sit in it. They do this by 'hustling their buns' and moving either left or right to occupy the empty chair before It can sit down. Players may only move one chair left or right. Eventually someone isn't fast enough and It sits down. The person on his or her left (or right) now becomes 'It'.

It's honey if you love me Pirate style

Play with a captain that makes the matches at noodle point. The captains at the ones that don't smile.

Arrrrrge Matey If ya love me you'll Smile

Arrrrge Matey I love ya but I just can't smile

Pool Noodle Wink-um

Use noodles instead of hands- give them some distance from the chairs

10:00 Dead Man's Chest

A team relay game

4 teams break into a treasure chest (decorated shoe box) to find a simple jig saw puzzle -25 pieces. One at a time each team runs to a designated spot with one piece to put the puzzle together one piece at a time. After the first person went we waited one minute before the next could go. One could stay and work on the puzzle but no one else could leave until one of the two came back. We had a treasure map for each team that told them where to go assemble the puzzle.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Theme: Filling our lives with more "stuff" never brings happiness.

Synopsis: Captain Barbossa explains the history of Elizabeth's Aztec coin, saying it was from a cursed chest of gold. Whoever took the gold would never have their physical desires satiated, but they'd be compelled and consumed by their greed forever.

God Point: Captain Barbossa sounds just like Solomon, trying to fill his life with wine, women and material riches, only to remain empty inside. Materialism probably does more damage to God's followers than any "ism" on record. Help your students break the habit so they don't spend their lives chasing after the wind.

Discussion Questions:

* What's the last thing you received that you really wanted badly? Did receiving that thing satisfy your desire and expectations? Why or why not?

* What evidence of materialism have you observed around you? What are the results of living a materialistic life?

Read aloud Ecclesiastes 5:10-15.

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money; nor he who loves wealth, with gain: this also is vanity. When goods increase, they increase who eat them; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes? Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much; but the surfeit of the rich will not let him sleep. There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt, and those riches were lost in a bad venture; and he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand. As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil, which he may carry away in his hand.

* Why don't material possessions bring lasting satisfaction?

* Does this mean material possessions and wealth are sinful? Why or why not?

* What's the difference between simply wanting something and being materialistic?

* How is materialism like a curse? What's the only way to break thiscurse?

* How can you protect yourself from becoming a slave to materialism?

1:30 Find your Booty Treasure Hunt

Before the lock-in, we hid different colored coins around the church one color for 4 teams and then made up clues for each to find a series of 5 coins. Each team went a different way in order to keep them from stealing each other's coins.

3:30 Walk the Plank

The East India Trading Company (3 people) this to find a group of  2 or three Pirates before the other pirates find and build their numbers up to 12 hiding in one place. We added 3 others to be Davy Jones and his hinch men. If they caught a pirate of one of the East Indy traders they went to "the locker" for 5 minutes.
