Trail Mixer Intro Name Game 6-6:05 Stand in a big circle and challenge someone to name everyone in the circle.
Name Toss Around 6:05-6:20 Divide into 3 smaller groups by numbering off 1, 2, 3. The leader introduces the game by saying his/her first name, and then tosses a ball (or other object) to another person calling out his or her name in the circle. All continue tossing the ball to anyone who has not had the ball saying the name of the person receiving it until the leader again has the ball. Always keep the same toss order. After the ball has been flying about for a few minutes, or more usually after you begin to get a feel for all the names in the group, start another ball. Add a third ball toward the end of the game just for fun because at this point the law of diminishing returns creeps in. Number off again in the smaller groups to shuffle and make new circles.
Clumps 6:20-6:30 Simply yell out a number then a body part or something group-able. (4 elbows, 7 feet) call the groups in such a way as to leave some people out. If they can't fit in a group they sit down. The leader then directs the remaining clumps mingle again. Other clumps: height, # cavities, # siblings, number of people in your immediate family, month of birth, favorite color, grade, middle initial, school you attend.
NO WAY OUT! 6:30-6:45 Although only two players actually do the running and chasing in this fast-moving game, all players participate in the thrill of catching someone inside their "net." To begin, all players but two join hands in a circle and stretch out and then drop hands. One player is "it" and one is the "Runner" (with a 6" chunk of pool noodle for tagging). "It" chases the runner as they both weave in and out among the players in the circle. Each time the runner passes between two players, those players immediately lock hands and yell "No way out!" This foils a slower-moving "it," who cannot pass under, over or through the locked hands. As the game progresses, the exits and entries in and out of the circle become more and more limited, until the runner has locked themselves safely inside or outside the circle. If "it" tags the runner, the two must exchange roles and continue play until one or the other is captured inside the ring. The first two that join hands are "it" and "runner" for the next round.
Do You Love Your Neighbor 6:45-6:55 All players sit in a circle except one person who is IT and asks, "Do you love your neighbor?" If they say YES, only their neighbors trade seats and the person that's IT try's to get a seat. If he/she does, then the person left standing is IT. However if they says NO then the person that was chosen then answers with a physical trait of other people in the circle (ex. glasses, shoes, hair color, and style of cloths - " I don't love people with glasses".) and those people move to any seat they can get except for their own.
Shuffle Your Buns 6:55-7 The chairs are arranged in a circle. One person is It and stands in the center of the circle. Everyone else sits down on a chair. One chair will be empty. The object of the game is for the sitting players to prevent It from sitting down. They do this by 'shuffling their buns' and moving either left or right to occupy the empty chair before It can sit down. Players may only move one chair left or right. Eventually someone isn't fast enough and It sits down. The person that missed the shuffle now becomes 'It'. Variations: Add two Its and 2 empty seats, Turn the seats to face outward.
Close by standing in a big circle right where they are and introduce the UMYF Benediction! |
