Here's How We Do It!

OUR MISSION

Interactively pursue youth ministries through fellowship, discipleship, outreach, and missions.

OUR VISION

We are committed to provide diverse opportunities to grow in the word of our Lord creating a foundation that will guide our youth when they face the complex choices of their lives.

OUR STRATEGY

Key Objective: Challenging today's generation

Key Plan:  By speaking often to young people in various settings, we intend to help our youth keep the bar of commitment high and the well of motivation deep.

Key Target:  Youth ages 12-18

Key Outcomes:  We'll know we're successful in challenging today's generation when we consistently see growth of faith, compassion, commitment and involvement in the young people we are trying to reach.

THE PLAN

DV8 is the name of our UMYF group.

Deviate – To turn, to move away, to depart.

DV - Short for “Digital Video”

DV - Short for “Devotional”

8 - According to Biblical numerology stands for evolution, for cycles of ebb and flow, strength and confidence. It is the number of new beginnings

"DV8, because God works in many ways!"

"DV8" meets on Sunday nights and is different things for different people. Sunday night groups will be a variety of activities: music, Bible, service, crafts, games, food, etc. Our core is UMYF and Sunday School.

The DV8 theme makes it possible for youth to grow in the Christian faith at their own speed.

We divide into DV8 groups based on grade. The groups are Work Zone 6-8 and High Way 9-12. We concentrate on spiritual fellowship Sunday nights. The simplest way to explain the groups is to say we teach in different styles, allowing the youth to grow by keeping their interest. The younger youth events and lessons are active, and the older are more discussion based.

During the school year we have a Commom Meal followed by a lesson based on the previous Chat Room discussions. A core of eight adult sponsors meet 45 minutes before UMYF. We try to invite other youth parents (active AND in-active) to rotate in with the core group. By involving all of our parents everyone has a better idea of just what happens in the youth program.

"Chat Room" meets on Wednesday night from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. We will focus on group building, planning, publicity, photography, history and web page management. This part of our ministry is designed to let us LISTEN to what matters to the youth. We are able to keep current and relevant by listening during Chat Room. We ask only two questions each night, one looking for feedback about how we have been doing and the other looking forward, usually asking what we should  plan next!

When summer comes, our format changes. The weekends become the Summer Events Explosion. This makes it really easy for our youth to invite others to come and S.E.E. Wednesday night becomes Seek N Solve and is a small group study. We've even been known to search out Christian messages in popular movies.

Rockin Youth Choir starts our Sundays off just before UMYF at 4:30. Many other activities occur during the year.
